Bastelkoffer is a suitcase with DIY materials and tools. / CC BY Niklas Roy & Kati Hyyppä
We used recycling cardboard as a basis for the boxes inside the Bastelkoffer. / CC BY Niklas Roy & Kati Hyyppä
The 90s style suitcases were bought used and needed some cleaning before becoming shiny Bastelkoffer. / CC BY Niklas Roy & Kati Hyyppä
Before building the DIY boxes the inside of the suitcase was measured in detail. / CC BY Niklas Roy & Kati Hyyppä
Basteling the Bastelkoffer-boxes. Sometimes it was hard to distinguish what was material for the boxes and what was content to be placed inside them. / CC BY Niklas Roy & Kati Hyyppä
In the modular design the boxes are fitted pairwise into the suitcase. It is possible to fit one thick box on one side of the suitcase, or two thin ones on top of each other. Here are two thick boxes with soldering tools side by side. / CC BY Niklas Roy & Kati Hyyppä

A close-up of one of the soldering boxes. Each box was labelled and had velcro pieces on the sides for closing it tightly. / CC BY Niklas Roy & Kati Hyyppä
Many of the boxes contained basic DIY tools and materials. This tool box has drawing and cutting tools. Multi-layered design was often used for sorting out the contents nicely. / CC BY Niklas Roy & Kati Hyyppä
The glueing box contained different kinds of glues and sturdy tapes. / CC BY Niklas Roy & Kati Hyyppä
We also made boxes with various structural materials. / CC BY Niklas Roy & Kati Hyyppä
The structural materials also included different types of recycled cardboard pieces. In general, we used largely materials that were left over from previous workshops. / CC BY Niklas Roy & Kati Hyyppä
The decoration box contains colourful little things, including also a heart-shaped Schatzkiste (treasure box). / CC BY Niklas Roy & Kati Hyyppä
Lots of leftover foil pieces cut into small pieces ended up in the second decoration box. By digging this box one may find special pieces, such as rainbow foil. / CC BY Niklas Roy & Kati Hyyppä
One box was dedicated to the Winkekatze LED card that Digitale Welten sometimes uses for learning a basic circuit. / CC BY Niklas Roy & Kati Hyyppä
Textile box to which some conductive yarn and electronic materials were also added. / CC BY Niklas Roy & Kati Hyyppä
We made two yellow Bastelkoffer for Digitale Welten, which can be borrowed. There are more boxes than what fits into these cases - just choose the combi that you need on the go! / CC BY Niklas Roy & Kati Hyyppä
For the Fliegende Künstlerzimmer we made one bigger Bastelkoffer, where their large cutting mats also fit. / CC BY Niklas Roy & Kati Hyyppä
The Fliegende Künstlerzimmer suitcase will stay mainly in Preungesheim as a part of their residency program. / CC BY Niklas Roy & Kati Hyyppä
