Fist, the needed yarns are prepared. The number of yarns is calculated for each colour and the yarns are also cut to a suitable the length. / CC BY Ramyah Gowrishankar & Kati Hyyppä
The pattern instructions tell the order and direction of how to thread the yarns into the cards. / CC BY Ramyah Gowrishankar & Kati Hyyppä
One side of the yarns is tied to a knot and the cards are threaded and stacked carefully to keep them in the right order. / CC BY Ramyah Gowrishankar & Kati Hyyppä
The stack of cards is tied temporarily together, so that they do not move when preparing the rest. / CC BY Ramyah Gowrishankar & Kati Hyyppä
Here the loose end yarns are being sorted. The knotted end is tied to a holder to make handling easier. / CC BY Ramyah Gowrishankar & Kati Hyyppä
A comb can be used for separating the yarns. / CC BY Ramyah Gowrishankar & Kati Hyyppä
The loose ends are tied around a small straight stick and attached with an extra piece of strong thread. This thread should be long enough, as it is needed for tying the loom in place. / CC BY Ramyah Gowrishankar & Kati Hyyppä
The strong thread is attached to a door handle or other fixture. The other end of the loom is attached to a ribbon tied around waist, so that there will be tension on the yarns when weaving. / CC BY Ramyah Gowrishankar & Kati Hyyppä
Another two sticks are inserted between the yarns to keep the belt straight and in good width while weaving. / CC BY Ramyah Gowrishankar & Kati Hyyppä
The belt is woven by holding all the cards together between fingers and by turning all of them together in one direction. This lifts the appropriate yarns and the warp yarn can then be inserted through. / CC BY Ramyah Gowrishankar & Kati Hyyppä
Repeating this rotation of cards slowly but surely weaves the yarns and reveals the belt pattern! / CC BY Ramyah Gowrishankar & Kati Hyyppä
